Cornwall U14 Junior League Seeding Tournament
Saturday January 26th To start the season for U14s
Cornwall held a seeding tournament to decide which teams would be in Division 1 and 2. Fifteen teams were entered which meant that there were three sections of five teams. The top two teams from each group would go through to division 1 with the third placed teams playing off for the remaining two places in division 1. Comets were off first with a hard game against a talented St Agnes 1 which they lost 27-2.
The next match saw the team relax and with some excellent Defence from Laura Grigg, playing in an unfamiliar GK position, plus a great performance in the shooting circle shot the team to a 10-2 victory. They started well against Predators trailing narrowly 3-4 at half time. The 2nd half Predators put on the pressure taking the win 14-4. Next up was Penryn 2 a close encounter with Satellites snatching the win 7-5. So two wins and two losses meant third place and a play off to come.
Last up was Penryn 1. Once again Satellites were slow to get off the mark. Poor passing in attack and missed opportunities allowed the talented Penryn side to take a 15-3 win over Satellites. So another third place and a play off waiting for a coveted Division 1 place.
Rockets had a smooth ride to Division 1. There attack was slick and fast. Rosie Bartlett was outstanding in the shooting circle hardly recording a miss. Excellent movement by GA Issy Hopkins, her speed helped to open up the opportunities in attack. She was backed up by two great WA's in Liberty Hartley and Elinor Powell, and a dynamic centre in Hermione Brown.
The defence also had to be congratulated allowing few balls through to the circle allowing only 9 goals in the four matches. A 1st Division place secured.
Rockets v Bodmin 1 won 25-4
V St Agnes 3 won 38-1
V Penzance 2 won 28-0
V Storm won 30-4
In the play offs it was Satellites who took one of the final Division 1 place So Junior league starts next week for the U14s.
Looks like an exciting season ahead
