Saints Rockets Soaring at the top of the U14 Junior League
Rockets had a tough day ahead with matches against St Agnes and Penryn
In the Aggie Boulders game they started well forcing the young side into lots of errors. Rockets took the lead 6-0 in the first quarter.
Aggie came back strong and fought hard to get back in the game. Errors in the Rockets attack allowed Aggie more shooting opportunity. This quarter Saints kept the lead winning the quarter 6-5 to lead 12-5 at half time.
The next quarter saw a different game. Alice Bebb moved from WA to GA, swapping bibs with Amy Woodward. The new combination gave the squad new focus in attack and the team pulled ahead to 21-9 at three quarter time. The last quarter was a similar affair with Saints dominating in attack and defence. Final score 29-13 to Saints.
Next up were old rivals the talented Penryn side. Rockets were in no mood for losing and dominated from the start slotting in 5 goals before Penryn got on the scoreboard. Some tremendous defence by the back three, Dooner, Couchman and Collins denied the Penryn shooters opportunities. Quarter time saw them lead 11-3. In the next quarter Penryn fought back hard but they could not break down the lead. Half time Rockets led 21-12.
Some fast attacking play in the next quarter saw Rockets stamp their authority on the game and with superb shooting from Henderson and Bebb the team stretched their lead to 31-15.
The last quarter was a messy affair for both teams with wild passing and errors in all areas of the court. Rockets however kept their composure to win 37-21 and secure their top spot in the County U14 A league
Satellites also had two tough games. They had a poor start against Penzance and despite playing well after that they could not break down the Penzance lead and lost 13-19
Against Storm Thunder they played with great speed in attack and tremendous tenacity in defence. They held Thunder close in the first three quarters of their match.
4-6 first quarter, 11-16 in the next and 16-23 at half time. The next quarter Satellites made more errors which the talented Storm team capitalised on to forge ahead, final score 20-36 to Storm
Comets had a difficult day. Against Penzance they put up a plucky fight but passing errors and missed goals gave Penzance the opportunity to lead all the way through the match. Final score 7-29 to Penzance
Their next match against Predators was a similar story. They worked hard in defence and forced errors but passing and shooting lacked accuracy so the team missed lots of opportunities
