Each county could select a boy and a girl from years 8-10 to travel to Manchester, on Sept 4th, 5th and 6th, to attend a weekend of inspirational workshops and practical sessions, led by Olympic Athlete Mentors.

Emily is a talented netball player who despite being only 13 years old is already in the Regional Performance Pathway, attending 4hours of training each week in the Regional Academy in Truro.

Emily is also a talented cross country runner, surf life saver and cricket player. She has been a member of Saints Netball Club since year 6. She is also a student at Truro School

This trip to Manchester was an opportunity for Emily to attend workshops on how explore her personal values and conduct in sport. She learnt more about the determination needed to achieve her dreams as an athlete and the courage and passion needed to follow through with her ambitions.

The Talent Inspiration Programme (TIP) brought together 200 young aspiring athletes from across the country to participate in a 3 day residential learning experience in Manchester from Thursday 4th September – Saturday 6th September alongside the National Level 4 School Games competitions.

With young people at the heart of the programme, the activities were specifically designed to engage and inspire young aspiring athletes and encourage them to start thinking about how they can reach their sporting potential and the impact that will have on their development as a young person. Consisting of theoretical workshops, practical sessions and the opportunity to experience what it is like to be an athlete at the Sainsbury’s School Games Level 4 event, TIP was a dynamic learning opportunity which helped to highlight the talent pathways available and support required for young aspiring athletes at a local level.

The Talent Inspiration Programme aims to:

  •

  • Enable young people to gain a clear understanding of their talent and specifically how they can harness this when they return to their school

  • Provide the young people with an insight into what it is like to compete at a major multi-sport event

  • Introduce the young people to new sporting experiences through the opportunity to work with disabled and able bodied athletes from across the country

It was led by experienced Athlete Mentors who will brought to life the world of an elite athlete and the journey it takes to reach the top, TIP athletes had the opportunity to:

  •

  • Participate in stimulating and engaging workshops

  • Hear the personal journeys of elite athletes

  • Learn from like minded young athletes from across the country

  • Try out exciting new sports and test their skills

  • Experience what it is like to be an athlete at the Sainsbury’s School Games Level 4 event.

  • Action plan to reach their sporting potential

  • Understand what it means to be a TIP Champion and the impact they can have at school

Emily thoroughly enjoyed the camp and is determined to follow her dream of becoming an England Netball Player
